Hawick Common Riding’s Mosspaul rideout will feature a line up of rugby greats from a couple of decades ago.
For international flanker Eric Paxton of Broomlea, Kelso is walking the main horse rides of the region’s common ridings and festivals and, for his first hike on May 25, will be accompanied by British Lions and Scotland players Jim Renwick, Roger Baird, Roy Laidlaw, John Rutherford, Rob Wainright, David Johnston, Jim Calder and brother, Finlay Calder, and Scotland flanker David Lesley.
The ex-Kelso Laddie is set to walk 250 miles over the summer and hopes to raise £3,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
He said: “I am doing this because I’ve lost three close friends to motor neurone disease, all very young, and everybody knows somebody who has cancer. All the money raised will stay in the Borders.”
The 56-year-old is in training, averaging 35 to 40 miles a week. To donate visit www.virginmoneygiving.com, type in Eric Paxton and his Borders Festivals Challenge page will appear.
Collection tins are in Kelso’s Central Baguette and at Brown’s newsagents.
