The Labour candidate for the Leaderdale and Melrose by-election ward has been announced as Robin Tatler.
Mr Tatler, chairman of the Tweeddale and Lauderdale branch of the party, joins four other contenders for the seat vacated following Nicholas Watson’s resignation.
He worked for more than 20 years as a fundraiser for local and national charities, including The Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh, and now runs a catering business, part of which operates in Tweedbank, and is actively involved in local organisations and projects across the Borders.
Mr Tatler said: “I am standing because I believe that Leaderdale and Melrose needs a councillor who will represent everyone in this ward and present a different point of view from the current coalition.”
Nominations close next Thursday (March 28), with the vote itself on May 2.
The other candidates announced so far are: Iain Gillespie (Borders Party), Rachael Hamilton (Conservative), John Paton-Day (Lib Dem) and Harry Cummings (SNP).
