“The Blackface looks to have changed dramatically in my lifetime, but the basics are the same as always. The mule breeders wanted black heads and black-and-white legs and that’s what Blackface sheep have now, pure black heads and grey noses.
“The other big change is wool isn’t worth as much now, so instead of long stapled wool, it’s now a far shorter staple and thicker fleece.
“They now produce more lambs than ever they did partly due to new advances in medicines and feed blocks and pregnancy scanning so you can bring the ewes carrying twins in.”
