Business fair is big Borders hit

THE organisers of the first Border Business and Tourism Fair have been overwhelmed by the interest from local businesses, writes Adam Drummond.

Demand for stands at the event, to be held at Springwood Park, Kelso, next Wednesday (March 13) has been such that there is now a waiting list for any places that become available.

The event has been arranged by Border Events and Crescent Information, and is something that the two local companies have had in the pipeline for some time.

Lesley Wilkinson from Border Events said: “We were amazed at the response, and it appears that there is a real appetite for local businesses working together during the recession.

“The event also takes place during UK National Tourism week and it is great to have the opportunity of putting the Borders on the map alongside the ‘Best of Britain and Ireland Tourism Fair’ in Birmingham and the North Tourism Fair in Alnwick.”

Lesley added: “We now have a waiting list for businesses requesting tables, but if they are unlucky this year, they can still come along on the day and network.

“We are hoping this will be a good day out for the general public and accommodation providers to attend, with plenty of opportunities to sample and buy local products, network and exchange leaflets and information.”

Entry and parking is free, and Marie Curie Cancer Care will be selling refreshments and light lunches throughout the day.
