PAnda fever hit senior pupils at a Peebles primary this week.
On Monday, Kingsland, the town’s newest school, played host to a giant panda mascot to mark the much vaunted arrival at Edinburgh Zoo of Tian Tian (Sweetie) and Yang Guang (Sunshine).
It was the only Borders school visited by a special educational roadshow to celebrate the 10-year loan arrangement between the governments of Scotland and China.
“Our pupils have been following the arrival of the pandas in Scotland with great interest and were excited at the prospect of welcoming a friend of Tian Tian and Yang Guang,” said Kingsland depute head Kenny Wilson.
“It also represents a great incentive to learn about these very special animals and find out more about the links between Scotland and China.”
Scottish culture minister Fiona Hyslop MSP said the roadshow, which visited six schools across Scotland on Monday, had been a great success.
“Scotland’s relationship with China is increasingly significant and it’s important our young people know how much this will play in their futures,” she told us.
