THE Borders branch of The Samaritans is holding an information evening on February 26 (7pm) at its 21 West Port base in Selkirk in a bid to encourage people to become volunteers.
The branch has 28 volunteers, but is always looking to recruit more people to ensure continuation of service to the local community and further afield.
Its confidential, non-judgemental service is offered by phone, email, text, letter and face-to-face. People contact Samaritans about all kinds of things, including loneliness, bereavement, anxiety, financial worries or during relationship breakdowns.
The charity’s 24-hour listening service responds to five million contacts a year across the UK.
“There is a range of roles available to suit people with different skills – from listening to callers on the phone, to providing admin support, IT support, fundraising and publicity,” said a spokesperson.
Anyone who wishes to talk in confidence to Samaritans should call 08457 909090 or email jo@samaritans.co.uk.
