A7 repairs will lead to delays

DAY and night time resurfacing is due to start on a stretch of the A7 between Selkirk and Galashiels.

The essential repairs – which will mean traffic disruption for a week – should have started on Wednesday with the job due to be completed next Thursday. But the job is dependant on favourable weather and the start has been delayed.

Work will take place between 8.30am and 4.30pm and again between 6.30pm and 1am. There is no work planned for tomorrow.

Transport Scotland says the resurfacing of the A7 between Boleside and Lindean represents an investment of £185,000.

A convoy system will operate with a speed limit of 10 miles per hour during working hours. Lights will control traffic when work isn’t taking place.

At times there will be restricted access to the B7060 and the B6360, as well as the unclassified Lindean road.

Transport Scotland has advised drivers to use alternative routes, although access will be maintained for residents.

The work is being carried out by Aggregate Industries on behalf of BEAR Scotland and has been planned in consultation with Lothian and Borders Police and Scottish Borders Council.

Ian Stewart of Bear Scotland said the convoy system was required to ensure the safety of workers and road users.

He added: “We regret that there may be some disruption and would advise motorists to allow additional time for their journeys and to plan ahead.”

Real-time journey planning information is available by logging on to www,trafficscotland.org

Because the repairs are dependent on the weather, BEAR says it will monitor forecasts and put the work on hold if conditions are not right. Material removed from the road will be recycled using methods approved by SEPA.
