Bullocks (26) averaged 212.3p per kg and sold to 231p (-0.7p on week), heifers (56) averaged 215.2p per kg and sold to 240p (+2.8p on week), three young bulls averaged 197.6p per kg and sold to 215p (n/c on week) and 38 beef type OTM cattle averaged 138.1p per kg and sold to 185p (+3.1p on the week).
The 2,221 old season lambs averaged 157.3p per kg and sold to £76 (+14p on week) including 1,126 hoggs 37-41kg hoggs averaging 164.6p pkg and 320 ewes averaged £45.66 and sold to £91(-£4.69 on week).

THE Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 37 prime cattle, three young bulls, 38 over 30 month cattle, 6,676 prime hoggs and 6,799 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
A small show of prime cattle and a shortage of quality on offer which reflected in the trade, more numbers required. The sale was topped at 218.5p for a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs R. Neill, Upper Tinwald, with Charolais heifers selling to 217.5p from J. and N. Blaylock and Son, Hallburn. Limousin bullocks sold to 215.5p from J.C. and D. Nicholson and Son, The Gill.

Another large show of 6,679 prime hoggs were forward and averaged 155p per kilo. One of the best shows of hoggs seen in this centre was forward with trade for best quality export weight hoggs being outstanding regularly selling between 200-250p/kg. Top was £101.50 from C Hebson, Chapel Farm and 255p per kilo for 38kg Beltex lambs from W. McGill, Carsloe, Ayrshire, with lighter weights and plainer hoggs still hard to cash, so diluting the average.

Border Livestock Exchange in the week ending Friday January 18, 2013 sold 129 prime cattle including 49 cows; 1,862 prime lambs; 409 cast ewes and 88 breeding cattle.
Aberdeen Angus cross steers and heifers hit the top prices this week with both West Kyloe and Fenwick Steads Belford selling to 400p per kg. Charolais crosses sold to 367p per kg for Heifers from Easington Grange, Belford and Primside Yetholm. Limousin cross steers and heifers from Shidlaw, Cornhill on Tweed sold to 371p per kg. Limousin cross heifers from Ross Farm, Belford sold to 365p per kg.
Prime lambs were slightly firmer with numbers held back due to the weather. Top prices were for Texel cross export weights from Milfield Farm, Wooler. Lleyn crosses to 335p per kg from Carlophill, Penicuik. Texel and Suffolk also to 335p per kg from Bowerhouse, Lauder; High Learchild, Alnwick and Goswick Farm, Berwick upon Tweed.
