The January meeting of Galashiels Clef Club on Saturday, featured a feast of surprises and new composers.

Linda Gray on piano opened with Gillick’s New Orleans Blues, followed by an arrangement of Meditation from Thais by Massenet.

Next up was the piano flute quartet of Heidi Goodship on flute, Robert Fraser on violin, Roger Clarke on cello and introducing Kenneth Hall on piano, who performed a sonata in D minor by Fasch.

Margaret Dick continued on piano, with Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words No 2 in A minor, followed by Brahms’ Intermezzo Opus 8 No 2.

Sue Wilson continued the piano entertainment with Six Short pieces on Toys, finishing with the familiar march by Bratton known to children everywhere as Teddy Bear’s picnic.

Dorothea and Kenneth Hall on recorders, voice and piano finished with ‘Theme on a nightingale’. Kenneth revealed himself to be a fine tenor as well as an accomplished pianist, which delighted the audience in the Lucy Sanderson Hall.
