MORE than 100 residents of Manor Valley in Peeblesshire celebrated “one of their ain”, Olympic showjumper Scott Brash of Castlehill, being made an MBE in the New Year Honours.
Scotland’s largest egg producer, John Campbell, and Manor Valley farmer Jim Currie organised the champagne and canapés event at Manor Hall for the 27-year-old Olympic gold medallist on January 2 when Lord Lieutenant of Tweeddale, David Younger, presented Brash with a photograph of Manor Valley residents which they had all signed.
Local farmer Robert Barr read out a poem about the talented showjumper, written by Selkirk wordsmith, former rugby player and coach Bryan Hoggan.
Mr Currie said: “The evening went well. I think Scott was very appreciative of it.”
