BUDDING business owners in the Borders will get a New Year boost when they are given the opportunity to learn a range of new skills in a series of free start-up workshops.

The Business Gateway sessions are designed to provide anyone interested in starting a new venture with the information they need to make the correct decisions and get their project up and running.

Delivered by a team of experienced business advisers, the start-up awareness sessions will cover a range of issues, including assessing the viability of a business idea, business planning, market research, legal structures, and tax and VAT.

The sessions will include: business start-up marketing – January 22 (10am-1pm); business start-up planning – January 31 (10am-1pm); business start-up finance – February 5 (10am-1pm).

Lyn Galloway, a adviser with Business Gateway in the Borders, commented: “The workshops are a must for anyone thinking about self-employment or starting a new business. Our start-up events are great building blocks and will set anyone on their way to starting and running a successful business.

“By attending these workshops, they will be better informed around the process of starting their business, and given the opportunity to arrange a meeting with a business adviser to discuss any specific issues or requirements.”

She added: “Starting a new business can be a challenging prospect, particularly if someone is looking to take on staff for the first time or set up a venture in premises outwith the home, so we have ensured that our workshop programme will not only help inform their choices, but answer any questions they have and provide the help and support needed to get their business off to a flying start.”

In addition to the start-up workshops, Business Gateway has launched a new website (www.bgateway.com) with information to guide budding entrepreneurs through the process.

To book a place at one of the sessions, visit www.bgateway.com/events or call 0845 609 6611. Alternatively, contact the local office on 01835 825600.
