THREE Buddhist monks killed in a road accident on the outskirts of the Borders have been named,
Phramaha Chai Boonma, 36, 43-year-old Phramaha Pranom Thongphaiboon and 35-year-old Phramaha Kriangkrai Khamsamrong were all pronounced dead at the scene on the A68 south of Pathhead in Midlothian on Christmas Eve.
The trio are originally from Thailand and were travelling north at 7.30am when their Nissan Note overturned and collided with a Skoda Octavia car, which was travelling south.
A 47-year-old man and the 61-year-old male driver of the vehicle were taken to hospital for various injuries.
A 74-year-old man who was driving the Skoda was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries before being released.
Road policing Ooficers closed the road, one of the main routes between Edinburgh and the Borders, for around six hours while they carried out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Anyone who was on the road on Monday morning and witnessed this incident is asked to contact police immediately and assist with their enquiries.
