Music in Peebles sees in the New Year in some distinguished company when the opening concert of 2013 features one of today’s finest pianists, and music by two of the greatest composers for the piano.
“This must be one of the season’s hottest tickets,” writes a spokesperson, “combining superstar Scottish pianist Steven Osborne [pictured] with a programme of masterworks by Schubert and Beethoven.”
The Linlithgow-born pianist’s programme features four masterworks completed within five years of each other, between 1822 and 1827: Schubert’s Impromptu No.1 in F minor, D.935, and his Sonata No.18 in G, D.894 (‘Fantasy’), plus Beethoven’s 11 Bagatelles, Op.119, and Sonata No.32 in C minor, Op.111.
The concert, which takes place in the Eastgate Theatre, is on Tuesday, January 8, and starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £13 from the Eastgate Theatre box office (01721 725777) and admission is free for school students. Details of all the concerts in the season can be found at www.musicinpeebles.org.uk.
