A MAN who recklessly smashed a shop door in Hawick has been ordered to pay £200 compensation for the damage he caused.
Barry Hayward, 30, of Kenilworth Avenue, Hawick, admitted committing the offence at the Co-op in Kenilworth Avenue on August 31.
Prosecutor Kate McGarvey said Hayward had gone to the shop to speak to his mother, who works there.
“He asked her for money, which she refused, and he started causing a scene,” explained Ms McGarvey. He was asked to leave and as he went outside there was a loud bang and the noise of smashing glass.
“This was a reckless act, rather than deliberate,” said defence solicitor Rory Bannerman.
