AT St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 90 clean cattle, 75 OTM cattle, 2,539 new season lambs and 760 ewes.
Bullocks (35) averaged 211.8p per kg and sold to 234p (-0.9p on week) while heifers (51) averaged 211.2p per kg and sold to 238p (-1.1p on week). Four young bulls averaged 201.2p per kg and sold to 212p (n/c on week) and 75 beef type OTM cattle averaged 130.5p per kg and sold to 195 (+3.1p on week).
The 2,539 new season lambs averaged 147.3p per kg and sold to £80, 189.7p p/k (-9.9p on the week) and 760 ewes sold to £105 & £113 for tups.

THE Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 48 prime cattle, 11 young bulls, 35 over 30 month cattle, 5,494 prime lambs and 6,880 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
A nice show of quality in the prime cattle and a brisk trade to match, but more numbers required to satisfy a full ringside of buyers. Top price of 233.5p for a smart Limousin heifer shown by D.J. Garthwaite and Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage and purchased by W. Kirkup and Son, Butchers, Longtown, others to 231.5p from Messrs R. Neill, Upper Tinwald, and purchased by J. Little, Charolais to 230.5p from J. and N. Blaylock and Son, Hallburn, and bought by Border Meats, Lockerbie. Limousin bullocks sold to 227.5p shown by W.H. and D.A. Another fine show of lambs were forward to a busy ring of buyers with a large amount of small lambs 27-33kg forward although keenly sought after.
Good quality lambs both export weight and heavy weight sold well, but Mules and heavier Blackfaces and rougher lambs proved very hard to cash. The sale average was 146.5p (SQQ 147.5p).
The sale topped at £90 for Texels from Catslackburn and to 214.5p/kg for Beltex from North Greenhill.

LAST week Border Livestock Exchange Ltd sold 149 prime cattle including 42 cows, 2,493 prime lambs, 324 ewes and 186 store and breeding cattle.
A wonderful consignment of 16 organic Hereford cross steers from Cresswell Farms, Belford, sold to 435p per kg. Belgian Blue cow from Jonathan Watson, Bowden Moor, Berwick, sold for a record price, she weighed 673 kgs realising £2,254 for the selling price of 335p per kg. This 10 year old cow graded an E2 and is destined to go to Belgium.
Light weight heifers from Fenwick Steads, Belford, sold to 372p per kg. Aberdeen Angus cross heifers from Shidlaw, Cornhill, sold to 395p per kg. Aberdeen Angus steers from West Kyloe, Beal, sold to 390p per kg.
Lamb trade continues to be steady with best quality export lambs selling to 370p per kg from Milfield Demesne, Wooler, and Stagehall Farm, Stow. Texel crosses to 360p per kg from Blackcastle, Pathhead. Chatton Park, Wooler, and Hedgeley Farms, Powburn.
