Peebles food bank

Peeblesshire’s first food bank is being set up to feed cash-strapped families facing a crisis.

“The food bank will be a frontline response to the immediate needs of people in crisis,” the Rev. Jim Benton-Evans, Rector of Peebles’ Church of St Peter, explained to a meeting of 50 people in Peebles last week.

“If everything falls apart for you, and you’ve got nothing, the food bank can provide a box with three days of emergency food,” explained Rev. Benton-Evans. We’ll also do our best to support you, and help you get back on your feet again.

“This is already a problem, and it’s going to get worse after April 1, after the government’s changes to housing benefits. The rug is going to get pulled out from under a lot of very vulnerable people.”

The food bank is due to become fully operational by the end of March, but it is already inviting people to sign up as volunteers, and informally responding to needs. Please call Rev. Benton-Evans
on 07702 842727.
