YOUTH CHEX is the Borders’ youth bank – a group of young people who live in the region and make decisions about the granting of money to youngsters on behalf of Scottish Borders Council.

New information and application packs are available for download at www.scotborders.gov.uk/youth. The closing date for applications is January 25.

Funding of £20,000 is available and aimed at supporting project ideas of people aged 12-25. Successful applicants will receive their funding by March 31. Projects should start on or after April 1 and must be led by young people.

The main change to the next 12 months’ funding is that applications have to be submitted under one of three priority criteria – included and involved, wellbeing and achievement. Other changes include a requirement towards fundraising by the group/organisation.

Applicants should read the guidance notes fully before submitting a bid.

Evidence will be considered about how a project ensures that young people become confident individuals, responsible citizens, successful learners and effective contributors, supporting the Curriculum for Excellence.

Grant-maker Zoe Daniels, from Earlston High School, said: “It is our responsibility to make sure that all young people are getting the most out of their community. We encourage all young people to discuss with their friends their good project ideas and then make an application to Youth Chex.”
