AN AUSTRALIAN ran through the Borders at the weekend to raise money for cancer charities.
Harald Ulriksen is running unsupported from Inverness to Brighton over two weeks, expecting to arrive at the south coast on Monday.
The 41-year-old has been raising money for cancer charities since 2008 when his wife and father died of the disease, first walking 2,400km solo from Adelaide up Australia’s east coast to Brisbane.
His British project sees him run an average of 70km (43 miles) a day in aid of the UK-based charities Children With Cancer UK, World Child Cancer and CLIC Sargent.
On Saturday he set off from Pathhead, and ran to Jedburgh where he stayed the night at the Spread Eagle Hotel.
One of World Child Cancer’s founders, Professor Tim Eden, who accompanied Mr Ulriksen by vehicle on Saturday, said: “He is a great guy and doing a very special thing to raise awareness and money to help children with cancer and their families in the UK and around the world.”
Some of Mr Ulriksen’s past expeditions include a 1,000km marathon from Melbourne to Sydney, a 400km run in New Zealand and 500km in Spain, trekking and climbing in the Himalayas, and a 3,700km trek in 65 days in Chile.
