St Boswells Concert Band is recruiting for its community concerts this Christmas.
“Unlike most brass bands, St Boswells doesn’t enter contests, which means it is more likely to suit players who prefer less pressure, more fun and a lighter engagement schedule,” writes member Evelyn Brown.
Players of brass instruments are invited to join the band’s annual Christmas concert in St Boswells village hall on December 17 and its other festive appearances, as well as the sessions every Monday night in the hall (7–9pm) – instruments are available. Call Fiona on 01896 820179 for information.
Meanwhile, the Scottish Borders Youth Band came second behind Dalmellington Junior Band in the senior section at the Scottish Youth Championships in Perth last Sunday.
John Smith writes: “It was extremely tough competition this year and the band produced a fine performance, playing the march Goldcrest, then Alan Fernie’s beautiful arrangement As Light Fades, followed by Ejala, featuring soloists Harry Marshall from Hawick and Liam Orr from St Ronans. The rousing finale was Farandole.”
