Sir Harry Secombe was in the Borders in November 1987, making an edition of his religious TV programme, Highway. The former Goon, who was an accomplished singer, visited the Borders abbeys – he is pictured at Jedburgh – as well as Abbotsford.
The programme’s production team recorded the Roxburgh Singers at Dryburgh Abbey. Rain plagued the Highway visit, but Sir Harry praised the “stunning” scenery and “the warmth of the people”.
